WOMAN SITTING ON THE GROUND WAITING FOR GOD

Introduction

Have you ever felt like you’re stuck in the middle—somewhere between a promise and the fulfillment, a prayer and the answer, a closed door and the next open one? That “in-between” space can feel long, uncertain, and honestly, kind of lonely.

I’ve been there too. Maybe you’re there right now.

Whether you’re waiting for healing, direction, a breakthrough, or a deeply personal desire—waiting can stir up all kinds of profeelings. Fear, frustration, weariness, even doubt. And sometimes it can feel like everyone else’s life is moving forward while yours is… on pause.

But here’s the beautiful truth I’ve learned from Scripture and from walking through some long waiting seasons myself: God is just as present in the wait as He is in the answer. He doesn’t leave us hanging. In fact, He often does some of His deepest work in us during the waiting.

Let’s explore what it really means to trust God when we’re in between. When life is quiet and unclear—but He is still speaking.

This waiting on God Bible study will equip you for those ” in-between-times.” (Don’t forget to grab your free printable Pdf Trusting God in the Waiting Season at the end of this blog!).

Waiting Isn’t Wasted

Waiting seasons can feel like nothing is happening. But spiritually, they’re often the most active times in our lives—just not in the way we expect. God is forming character. He’s strengthening trust. He’s aligning pieces we don’t even know need aligning.

Think about Joseph. He had a God-given dream, but he didn’t step into leadership overnight. First, he was betrayed, sold, falsely accused, and thrown in prison. All those “unseen” years? God was building leadership, humility, and dependence. None of it was wasted.

The same is true for you. What feels like a delay is often divine development. That pause you’re experiencing? God is preparing you for what you’ve been praying for.

When we believe that waiting is part of God’s process—not a punishment—it helps us rest, trust, and even find peace while we wait.

The Danger of Moving Ahead Too Fast

Let’s be honest: when waiting feels hard, we’re tempted to take things into our own hands. We start asking, “Did God really say to wait?” Or, “Maybe I need to make something happen myself.” Sound familiar?

In the Bible, we see this with Sarah and Hagar (Genesis 16). Sarah got tired of waiting for her promised child and tried to “help God out.” It only led to heartache and unnecessary complication.

That story is a warning for all of us: don’t rush what God is still preparing.

There’s a quiet strength in staying put when your flesh wants to push forward. Faith waits. Faith trusts that what God has said, He will do—in His time, not ours. And often, that surrender brings a kind of peace you can’t find in striving.

Waiting doesn’t mean doing nothing. It means choosing obedience and stillness even when everything in you wants to run ahead.

How to Wait Well (and Stay Encouraged)

So what does it look like to wait well? First, it means staying close to God’s Word. Scripture reminds us of His faithfulness when our feelings try to convince us otherwise. Verses like Isaiah 40:31 or Psalm 27:14 speak life right into our waiting.

Next, worship. It may seem simple, but worship shifts our focus. When we praise God in the in-between, we remind our hearts of who He is—not just what we want Him to do.

And finally—keep showing up. Do the next right thing. Serve where you are. Love who’s in front of you. Be faithful with what’s already in your hands. These aren’t wasted actions. They’re seeds sown in trust, and one day, you’ll see the harvest.

God isn’t just working on your situation—He’s working on you. And when the answer finally comes, you’ll be more ready than you even knew.

Reflect

Can I ask you something, friend?

What are you waiting for right now—and how are you waiting? Are you anxious? Frustrated? Maybe even starting to feel forgotten?

I want to encourage you today: God hasn’t overlooked you. He sees the tears, the prayers, the faithfulness no one else notices. He’s in the middle of the silence, and He’s using this season to deepen your roots.

You’re not stuck. You’re being prepared. And just because you don’t see movement doesn’t mean God isn’t moving.

I also created a printable 31-Day Bible Reading Plan just for this topic: When You’re in Between: The Waiting Season. You can use it as your daily time with God this month, and let the Scriptures walk with you through the waiting. You’ll find it at the end of this blog.

God is still writing your story. Don’t rush the chapter He’s using to shape you.
