The Bible has over 200 references and Bible verses about Bible study or studying Scripture, God’s Word. This shows the importance of studying God’s Word. Mostly, these verses refer to our personal effort of reading the Bible.

Here are 20 powerful Bible verses about Bible study to encourage and empower you to read in God’s Word daily.

Which Bible Verse should I read before studying?

The most important thing to do before reading the Bible is to pray. Pray for understanding, guidance, an open heart, and an open mind. Ask the Holy Spirit to reveal God’s Word to you and help you understand the meaning behind the Bible verses you read.

However, it can also be helpful to read a specific Scripture each time you read God’s Word. One of my favorites is Joshua 1 verse 8; it is a good Bible verse about Bible study. This verse helps us remember the reason we study the Bible, and that God wants us to meditate on His Word.

“Study this Book of Instruction continually. Meditate on it day and night so you will be sure to obey everything written in it. Only then will you prosper and succeed in all you do.”

Joshua 1:8 (NLT)

When reading God’s Word, it is vital we don’t rely on our human understanding, but rely fully on God and His Spirit. Two Bible verses that are helpful to read before studying the Bible are:

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding.”

Proverbs 3:5 (NLT)

“But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you.”

John 14:26 (NKJV)

It enhances our lives when we study the Bible for ourselves, as part of our daily schedule. We can read God’s Word in the morning to boost our day and use Bible verses as powerful morning declarations. Or we can set apart time later during the day or in the evening as part of our bedtime routine. Whatever schedule we choose is fine, as long as we study the Bible.
